[ARCHIVED] La Palma-Cerritos AAUW Works for Equity for Women and Girls in 2021

2021 Update

La Palma-Cerritos AAUW Works for Equity for Women and Girls in 2021

By Edna Ethington

Beverly Zwick, President of the AAUW La Palma-Cerritos Branch Beverly Zwick, President of the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), said that she would like to wish everyone a “Happy and Healthy New Year!” After suffering through months of quarantine, illnesses, injuries, and personal losses, she, and branch members, pray that the New Year brings you nothing but “Sweet Memories.”  Members are looking forward to being able to meet in-person again in 2021.

Members of the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of the AAUW have not been able to hold in person meetings and fundraisers because of the health restrictions caused by the COVID-19 virus.  However, branch members continue to work to advance equity for women and girls by raising funds and promoting education, research, and legal advocacy. In 2020, the branch donated $1,000 for Fellowships and Grants for graduate women, $1,000 for Greatest Needs, and $500 for Legal Advocacy through National AAUW Fund. AAUW Fund Co- VP’s held two “Take- Out Dinner Fundraisers” at local restaurants in 2020. In January of 2021, they plan to ask for donations through a “Non-Event” called “Share Your COVID Savings with the AAUW Fund.” Rather than spend money for a luncheon, the AAUW Fund Co-VP’s hope that members will make donations directly for the AAUW Fund.

Program Co-VP Karen Cox invites interested people to join the La Palma-Cerritos AAUW Branch and participate in upcoming virtual Zoom meetings on the third Thursdays of each month. Persons interested in participating in the virtual Zoom meetings must register no later than one day before the meeting of the month by contacting Karen Cox at 562-519-0596. She will then give you the meeting I.D. number and the passcode. A brief business meeting will follow each presentation.
