La Palma Citizen's Academy

The La Palma Citizen’s Academy is a free, five-week course introducing residents to the inner workings of their city.

Each workshop focuses on specific aspects of local government functions, including administration, finance, public safety, community development, community services, and public works.  

Additionally, the Citizen’s Academy introduces participants to volunteer opportunities to become involved by serving on a City committee or even City Council.

Youth Members

The City of La Palma has opened 5 seats in the 2022 Citizen's Academy for La Palma high school students. To be considered, you must:

  • Be a high school student (Grades 9th-12th)
  • Live in La Palma
  • Attend all Academy Sessions

After graduation you will receive a Certificate of Graduation from the City and have an opportunity to apply for a seat on La Palma’s Community Activities and Beautification Committee (CAB) as a Youth Member.


The 2022 Citizen’s Academy will be held on the following Wednesday's evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the La Palma City Hall Council Chambers (7822 Walker Street, La Palma, CA 90623).

July 6 - Welcome, Local Government Overview, & Community Development

July 13 - Recreation and Public Works

July 20 - Public Safety (Police & Fire)

July 27 - City Attorney & Finance & Budget

August 3 - Elections and City Council
