The City of La Palma Community Services Department collaborates with the City of Cypress Recreation Department to offer a variety of special events, activities, and other opportunities for teens throughout the year. Volunteens (2021 Program Pending)

The City accepts 20 teen volunteers (13-17 years of age) that are residents of La Palma (proof of residency is required) to assist our trained Day Camp Counselors each summer at Club La Palma Day Camp and Camp Tiny Tot. Teens must submit an application online and attend an interview. If chosen to participate they must attend weekly meetings and training.

Virtual Teen Job Workshop

Join the Cities of La Palma and Cypress for Resume building, networking and volunteering tips, and how to keep your new job! This event is for teens 13 – 18.

Rise to the Top: Teen Virtual Workshop! 

The Cities of La Palma and Cypress are hosting a motivational workshop for teen athletes. Guest speakers from Trinity International University will discuss how the pandemic has affected their college basketball careers and how they have maintained a positive attitude through a tough time. All teens are welcome to attend!

Youth Action Committee

The City appointed Youth Action Committee (YAC) works in conjunction with the City of La Palma and outside groups for the benefit of the community and its youth. We are looking for high school students who will help promote programs and inform the public about teen opportunities for Cities. 

In order to be considered for the Youth Action Committee you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be a resident of the City of Cypress or La Palma, in high school and not older than eighteen years of age.
  2. Must be able to attend committee meetings and activities that require a minimum of two to six hours per month.
  3. Required to volunteer a minimum of 35 hours for Cypress and/or La Palma events.
  4. Required to volunteer 10 “outside hours” (5 hours out of normal routine, 5 hours within normal routine).
  5. Required to attend one City Council meeting and one Recreation Commission meeting and write a summary of the meeting.
  6. Help raise funds to purchase gifts for the Adopt-a-Family program and to purchase a tree for the annual Arbor Day event.
  7. Required to assist in the Seal Beach Clean-Up Day.
  8. Required to assist and promote the Teen Fashion Scene and other teen events.
  9. Must carry a 2.5 GPA (excluding Physical Fitness) from the academic school year.
