Police Service Aides are responsible for enforcement of the City's parking laws. One of their main duties is to ensure compliance with the “NO PARKING” on residential streets during street sweeping. The goal of this project is to get compliance from all citizens within the community so that our streets are swept effectively each week.
All streets in the City of La Palma are swept once a week, usually the weekday following your normal trash collection day, between noon and 3 p.m. To find out the street sweeping day in your area, please view this color coded map. If you have a unique situation that prohibits the removal of a vehicle in the street sweeping area, please contact the Police Dispatcher at (714) 690-3370 prior to noon on the day of sweeping.
Sweeping the City’s streets on a regular basis helps provide clean neighborhoods and protects water quality. Street sweeping services are provided by a third party contractor as part of resident’s sanitation/trash fees. Please note, that street sweeping enforcement is generally cancelled during weeks where a City recognized holiday causes conflicts with the trash/waste collection schedule (for example, when a Monday holiday, pushes trash collection back to the same day as street sweeping throughout the whole week). The City recognized holidays are: New Year’s Day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Recreational Vehicle and Trailer Parking Regulations
The City of La Palma Municipal Code prohibits oversized vehicle (recreational vehicles) and non-motorized vehicle (trailers) from parking on any public street, privately owned street, or any driveway in a residential zoning district, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., except with an exemption (permit).
Each residence will be granted fifty (50) exemptions in a calendar year for each affected vehicle they own. The 50 total exemptions are for the parking of a restricted vehicle on public streets, private streets, or residential driveways. To accommodate guests, each household will be granted thirty (30) exemptions for non-resident vehicles parked on the public streets, private streets, or residential driveways.
La Palma residents must contact the La Palma Police Department, in advance and before midnight, to obtain an overnight parking permit (exemption). There in no charge for this permit. Residents will need to provide all of the following information to obtain an exemption/permit:

As a reminder, the overnight parking exemptions do not override any other parking laws, like: parking on a street in excess of 72 hours, parking oversized vehicles within 100 feet of an intersection, or parking on the street during street sweeping. Permit Parking Zones (A and B)
The City of La Palma has established preferential Permit Parking zones within the community:
The Permit Parking Ordinance prohibits the parking of all vehicles between 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., except with a valid permit. This ordinance is designed to limit overnight transient parking on streets within the restricted areas (zones).
Those living in the restricted area can contact the La Palma Police Department to obtain permits for vehicles registered at their home as well as guest permits.
