Patrol

Patrol Operations is the largest unit in the Department with 12 authorized sworn patrol officers and four sergeant watch commanders. This unit provides 24-hour service every day of the year.

When the Police Department receives emergency calls, patrol personnel are the first responders to those calls for service and in-progress crimes. These officers enforce all applicable federal, state and local laws and participate in proactive crime prevention strategies and community outreach efforts.

Assignments

Each new police officer is first assigned to Patrol Operations and gains experience working the streets. Only experienced officers are considered for specialty assignments such as investigations, School Resource Officer, Accident Investigator, or SWAT.

Specialty assignments are filled from the Patrol ranks and are usually three- to four-year temporary assignments. When completed, the officers rotate back to Patrol Operations.
